Ontario Rural OB/GYN Opportunity

Gynecology-Focused | Sustainable Obstetrics | Strong Surgical Environment | GTA Proximity

The Opportunity

We are recruiting an OB/GYN to join Georgian Bay General Hospital, a supportive rural Ontario hospital serving a 50,000-person catchment with the opportunity to help repatriate births toward 300–400 annually from surrounding centres. This is a replacement role with a July 2026 start date. While the program provides full low-risk obstetrics, the workload leans meaningfully toward gynecology and surgical practice.

Clinical Scope – Obstetrics

·        ~250 births annually (growth target 300–400)

·        Low-risk obstetrics (Level 1B guardrails)

·        No NICU or on-site pediatrics

·        High-risk OB transfers to tertiary centres

·        C-sections performed locally

·        7 active midwives delivering in hospital and community

Clinical Scope – Gynecology & Surgery (Major Focus)

·        Significant and growing referral base for gynecologic surgery

·        OR access every other week progressing to weekly with flexibility

·        Strong general surgery group and experienced OR nursing team

·        Increasing laparoscopic volumes

·        No Gyne Oncology on site (complex cases referred appropriately)

Call & Workload

·        1-in-3 or 1-in-4 home call (low volume)

·        Currently supported by 2 locums

·        Funding model supports 3 OB/GYNs plus GPOB support

·        Manageable call compared to academic or high-volume GTA centres

Compensation & Incentives

·        AFPT model approximately $450,000

·        30% FFS component

·        HOCC $500/day

·        $8,000 relocation funding

Community, Lifestyle & Strategic Vision

Georgian Bay General Hospital (GBGH) is a 113-bed acute care hospital with sites in Midland and Penetanguishene, serving North Simcoe and surrounding townships including Tay, Tiny, Springwater and Georgian Bay. The permanent catchment of approximately 55,000 residents expands significantly during cottage and tourism seasons. GBGH is part of the North Simcoe Ontario Health Team and is guided by its strategic vision: 'We Make Excellent Care Personal.'

Strategic priorities include:

·        Continual excellence in safety, quality and coordinated care

·        Trust and belonging through community engagement and health equity

·        Investment in teams, leadership and workplace culture

·        Sustainable growth in infrastructure and services

Southern Georgian Bay offers exceptional four-season outdoor living, including boating, beaches, hiking, cycling, skiing, snowmobiling, golf and access to the 30,000 Islands. The region is family-friendly with strong public and Catholic schools, local arts and cultural festivals, and vibrant small-town communities.

The cost of living and housing remain more attainable compared to major urban centres, while maintaining close proximity to larger cities — approximately 90 minutes to Toronto, 45–50 minutes to Barrie, and 30 minutes to Orillia — allowing access to urban amenities, airports and tertiary services without the intensity of metropolitan practice.

Why This Role Stands Out

·        Gyne-dominant surgical opportunity

·        Manageable OB call

·        Strong OR culture and collegial surgical group

·        Physician-supportive leadership

·        GTA proximity with balanced rural lifestyle

·        Ability to shape and grow women’s health services
